Privacy Policy
Last updated
The Credit Compass is built so that you can work out your borrowing without handing your financial details to anyone — including us. This policy explains the little data we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. The short version
- There are no accounts, sign-ups or forms. We never ask for your name, phone number or email to use the site.
- The numbers you type into calculators and My Finances — income, EMIs, expenses, loan amounts — are processed in your browser and saved only on your device. They are not sent to us.
- We use Google Analytics and PostHog to count visits and see which pages and tools are used. Your figures are removed before any page address is sent to them.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal data with banks, lenders, DSAs or call centres. We earn nothing from lenders (see how we are funded).
2. Who we are
The Credit Compass (thecreditcompass.in) is operated by Bhargav Dwadasi, an individual based in Bengaluru, India. For this policy, “we” and “us” means the operator. You can reach us at contact@thecreditcompass.in.
3. What we collect and why
Usage data (analytics). When you visit, our analytics tools record the pages you view, the links and buttons you click, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address), and your device, browser and screen size. We use this to understand which guides and tools are useful, find broken pages, and improve the site. It is recorded against a random identifier, not your name.
Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically logs technical request data — IP address, browser, the page requested and the time — to deliver pages, keep the site secure and diagnose errors.
Emails you send us. If you write to us, we receive your email address, name (if you give it) and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply, fix the error you reported, or handle your request.
What we do not collect. We do not collect your PAN, Aadhaar, bank account details, credit report, phone number or financial figures. Do not email us documents containing them — we never need them.
4. Your figures stay on your device
Our calculators, the Affordability Checker, Rate Predictor, Scheme Matcher, Debt Planner and My Finances all run in your browser. When you save a profile in My Finances or move between tools with your inputs pre-filled, the data is stored in your browser's local storage on that device. It is never uploaded to our servers.
Some tools put your inputs in the page address so you can bookmark or share a result. Those inputs are stripped out before the address is passed to our analytics tools, so they are not recorded. If you share such a link, anyone who opens it sees the figures in it.
To delete it: use Delete my data on the My Finances page, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. My Finances also lets you download your profile as a file.
6. Who processes data for us
We use these service providers. Each processes data only to provide its service to us:
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — visit and usage statistics. Google privacy policy.
- PostHog (PostHog Inc., EU data region) — product analytics on page and tool usage. PostHog privacy policy.
- Vercel (Vercel Inc.) — website hosting, server logs and anonymous page-speed measurement. Vercel privacy policy.
- Supabase — stores the site's own content, such as interest rates and articles. It holds no visitor data.
These providers may process data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union. We do not share personal data with anyone else, except where Indian law requires us to (for example, a lawful request from a government authority).
7. How long we keep it
- Analytics data: event-level data is kept for no more than 14 months in Google Analytics (the longest it allows), and in PostHog only as long as it is useful for spotting trends.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period for security and debugging.
- Emails: kept for as long as needed to deal with your message, and up to 2 years so we can follow up on corrections. Ask us to delete yours at any time.
- Data on your device: until you delete it (see above).
8. Your rights
We handle personal data in line with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as its provisions come into force. You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- correct or update it;
- delete it; and
- resolve a complaint about how we have handled it.
Because analytics data is tied to a random identifier rather than your name, we may need details such as the approximate date and device of your visit to find it. Email contact@thecreditcompass.in — see Grievances for response times. To stop analytics on your device at any time: install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on described above, and turn on your browser's Do Not Track setting, which PostHog honours. A content or tracker blocker also stops both.
9. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Analytics and hosting accounts are protected with access controls. Because your financial figures are never sent to us, they cannot be exposed by a breach of our systems — but anyone with access to your device and browser can see what is saved there, so use Delete my data on a shared device.
10. Children
The Credit Compass is meant for adults making borrowing decisions. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change means collecting new kinds of personal data, we will say so clearly on the site before it takes effect.
