The Credit Compass helps you understand loans before you borrow. Please read this page to understand what our information is — and what it is not.
1. Educational information, not advice
Everything on The Credit Compass — guides, articles, comparisons, calculators and tools — is general information to help you understand borrowing in India. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it does not take your full circumstances into account. For a decision that matters to you, speak to a qualified professional such as a SEBI-registered investment adviser, a chartered accountant or a lawyer.
2. We are not a lender or loan agent
We are not a bank, NBFC or lender, we are not regulated by the Reserve Bank of India, and we are not a direct selling agent or broker. We do not accept loan applications, approve loans or collect fees from borrowers. If anyone contacts you claiming to offer a loan on behalf of The Credit Compass, it is not us — see loan red flags and report it as described on our contact page.
3. Interest rates and fees
Rates, fees and charges are taken from lenders' official websites and rate cards and are shown with the date we last checked them. They are indicative:
- lenders change them frequently, sometimes daily;
- the rate you are offered depends on your credit score, income, employer or business, loan amount and tenure;
- advertised "starting" rates are usually available only to the strongest profiles.
Before you sign, compare the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on the lender's Key Fact Statement. How we source and verify data is explained in our methodology.
4. Calculators and predictions
EMI and cost calculators use standard reducing-balance formulas and the assumptions shown with each tool. Actual EMIs can differ because of rounding, broken-period interest, fees, insurance and the lender's own methods. The Rate Predictor, Affordability Checker and Scheme Matcher give estimates based on published criteria and typical lender behaviour; they are not offers, approvals or eligibility decisions.
5. Government schemes and regulations
Scheme rules, subsidy amounts and RBI regulations change. We link to the official source for each and note when we last checked it, but the official notification or portal always takes precedence over our summary.
6. Examples and case studies
Articles often use named borrowers — for example “Ravi” or “Sunil” — to show how a rule works with real numbers. These are illustrative composites, not real people, and their figures are worked examples rather than quotes from any lender.
7. Independence
We receive no commissions, referral fees or advertising money from lenders, and lenders cannot pay to change how they appear. Rankings and comparisons are based only on published data. Details: how we are funded and our editorial policy.
8. Third-party websites
Links to lenders, regulators and other websites are provided so you can check sources and apply directly. We are not responsible for the content, products or practices of those sites.
